Bám sát nội dung phim, Revenge of the Fallen là một tựa game hành động góc nhìn thứ ba với 2 phe phái chính là Autobot và Deception. Và một khi đã nắm quyền chỉ huy robot trong tay, người chơi có toàn quyền lắp ghép qua lại giữa hình dáng robot và phương tiện di chuyển như phi cơ chiến đấu, xe hơi...

Tuy nhiên, ngay từ đầu, game đã làm khó người chơi khi chỉ cho phép người chơi sử dụng một phím duy nhất để tấn công kẻ thù, thay đổi hình dạng và tăng tốc, tạo ra sự bất tiện không nhỏ cho người chơi ngay từ đầu.

Hóa thân thành robot biến hình là một trải nghiệm thú vị.

AI của Revenge of the Fallen một lần nữa lại làm game thủ phải thất vọng khi kẻ thù máy thường thực hiện những thao tác hết sức ngớ ngẩn và khó hiểu. Chẳng hạn, khi đứng cạnh một tòa nhà lớn, kẻ thù sẽ leo lên đỉnh của tòa nhà đó. Mọi chuyện sẽ rất ổn thỏa, nếu như chúng biết cách tự bảo vệ mình trong quá trình leo nhà.

Thế nhưng khi bị tấn công từ sau lưng, chúng thậm chí không nghĩ đến việc nhảy khỏi tòa nhà để tránh đòn hay tấn công đáp trả. Do đó, hiếm có con robot của đối phương nào có thể leo lên đỉnh một tòa cao ốc mà không bị thương chí mạng và nếu người chơi khôn khéo, chúng sẽ chẳng có cơ hội làm được việc đó.

Kẻ thù máy thường "đưa đầu" chịu trận một cách thụ động.

Bên cạnh đó, kẻ thù máy cũng có xu hướng đứng ì trên nóc các tòa nhà cao tầng và tấn công bạn từ xa, chính lối chiến thuật khó hiểu này đã biến chúng trở thành những bia bắn cố định không thể lý tưởng hơn cho người chơi thử sức với súng máy thường hay tên lửa tầm nhiệt.

Hệ thống nhiệm vụ của Revenge of the Fallen cũng lặp lại với 3 mô típ nhiệm vụ chính là tiêu diệt toàn bộ đối phương xuất hiện trên rada, hộ tống và bảo vệ yếu nhân.

Hệ thống nhiệm vụ khá sơ sài với kiểu nhiệm vụ chính là Tìm và diệt.

Cách mà Beenox Studios trình bày nội dung game cũng gây nhàm chán cho game thủ, bởi từ đầu đến cuối, người chơi chỉ được xem một đoạn phim Intro và một vài đoạn giới thiệu nhiệm vụ sơ sài và không có tác dụng.

Chính vì sự thiếu hụt một yếu tố rất quan trọng là các đoạn 'cutscene' nên hầu như vào một thời điểm trong game, người chơi chẳng biết chuyện gì đang xảy ra với phe của mình. Thậm chí ngay cả khi người chơi hoàn tất nhiệm vụ cuối cùng, Beenox Studios cũng “tiết kiệm” không thực hiện một đoạn phim kết thúc.

Phần chơi mạng đã cứu vớt khá nhiều cho Revenge of the Fallen.

Nói như vậy không có nghĩa Revenge of the Fallen là một tựa game thất bại trên mọi phương diện. Phần chơi mạng cũng là một điểm sáng của Revenge of the Fallen, nơi người chơi có thể thử sức với các người chơi khác qua nhiều chế độ chơi khác nhau: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, One Shall Stand.

Hệ thống robot trong game được lấy nguyên mẫu từ phim và được thiết kế khá bắt mắt với những loại vũ khí và khả năng đặc thù của riêng mình. Nếu bạn là một người chơi thích những cảnh cháy nổ như phim hay có sở thích tàn phá mọi thứ trên đường đi của mình, Revenge of the Fallen có thể thỏa mãn phần nào nhu cầu đó của người chơi.
